Happy Heart Plus adds two redox ingredients to the Happy Heart Advanced formula: 600 mg of N-acetylcysteine and 100 mg of alpha-lipoic acid, alongside 200 mg of coenzyme Q10. N-acetylcysteine supplies cysteine, the rate-limiting substrate for glutathione synthesis. Alpha-lipoic acid is a cofactor of mitochondrial dehydrogenase enzymes and takes part in antioxidant recycling. Clinical trials of alpha-lipoic acid have mostly used 600 mg per day, six times the amount in Plus. Plus also supplies 200 mg of magnesium as buffered bisglycinate chelate, the same amount as Happy Heart Core. The formula itself has not been tested in a controlled trial.
Benefits
- Supplies 200 mg of coenzyme Q10 as ubiquinone
- Supplies 600 mg of N-acetylcysteine, a precursor of glutathione
- Supplies 100 mg of alpha-lipoic acid
- Supports normal homocysteine metabolism with folate, B12, B6, and riboflavin in active forms
- Selenium supports the antioxidant enzyme glutathione peroxidase
How it works
-
01
N-acetylcysteine supplies cysteine, the rate-limiting substrate for the body's own glutathione synthesis.
-
02
Alpha-lipoic acid is a cofactor of mitochondrial dehydrogenase enzymes, works in both water-soluble and fat-soluble environments, and takes part in the regeneration of other antioxidants.
-
03
Coenzyme Q10 carries electrons between complexes of the mitochondrial electron transport chain, the step that drives ATP production.
-
04
Folate, vitamin B12, vitamin B6, and riboflavin are the cofactors of the methylation cycle that clears homocysteine.
